Obituary for Clive Abbott

Clive Abbott
ABBOTT, Clive Reginald January 21, 1951 – July 28, 2012 Passed away peacefully at home, comforted by family. It is with great sadness that Travis (Becky) and Miranda (Jeff) lay to rest their dear dad. Special Papa to Reegan, Brianna, Liam, Dax, and Aria. Clive loved his grandchildren deeply and attended their activities with great pride and joy. Clive will be sorely missed by his loving mother Alfreda, and his dear sisters Lorna, Beverley, Renee (Steven) and Alouette (Randy). Greatly missed by his nieces and nephews, Shanna, Keegan, Michael, Meghan, Nicole (Bogdan), Scott, and Brad. Predeceased by his beloved father Edgar, 2008. Clive is also lovingly remembered by Shari. Clive was born in Capetown, South Africa, and moved to Canada via London, England, settling in Kitchener in 1966. He was employed by Lear Canada for 36 years. Clive was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed golfing with his friends, and played soccer and broomball on local teams during his younger years, acquiring the nickname ‘Abbott the Rabbit’ because of his speed and agility. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and darts on teams at the Loyal Order of the Moose Kitchener Lodge, a service club dear to his heart. Clive enjoyed music immensely, especially the British Invasion era. He loved to camp with his family and taught himself to play guitar so he could jam with his friends and play songs around the campfire with his children and grandchildren. Clive was a generous man, whether it was volunteering at the Moose Lodge or lending a hand to help a friend in need, he could be counted on to help out. Clive’s friends returned his generosity by faithfully supporting him during his struggle with cancer. Clive’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dan Munro and Joan Chappus, Greg and Elsie Ayre, Paul and Tina Gordon, and Glen Heimbecker for their support during this difficult time. A special thank you is also extended to the staff at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre and the incredible CCAC Team 8 nurses for their compassion and care. Visitation for family and friends will take place at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Clive’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, August 2, 2012, at 10:00 am with a reception to follow. A private family interment will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Moose Lodge or Grand River Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
