Obituary for Philip A. Sivernail

Philip A. Silvernail Jr. passed away on December 7, 2017 at his home in Zephyrhills, FL. He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on January 18, 1950 to Shirley (Chapman) and Philip A. Silvernail Sr. both deceased. On February 17, 1968 he married Theresa Ann (Grega) who survives and with whom he had three children. The eldest, Shirley Ann died at birth. Surviving are “Daddy's little girl” Tina Marie Silvernail Koch with her husband, Patrick, and their daughter Jessica of New Paltz, NY and Philip A. Silvernail III “Huff” with his wife, Dee, and his son Jack of Wallkill, NY. Although their marriage eventually ended, Phil and Theresa remained close and in later years she became his companion and care-giver until his death. Phil was especially devoted to his grandchildren, Jessica and Jack, who will always remember and miss their “Poppy” and “Pop”.

Phil is also survived by his sisters, Wendy Morano of Poughkeepsie and Cindy Bogdanowicz Kern and her husband, Jeff, of Dayton, Ohio and by his brother-in-law, Richard Grega of Zephyrhills, FL as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Before relocating to Florida about five years ago, Phil had resided in Poughkeepsie, Red Hook and New Paltz. Over the years he owned and operated several businesses, including Burch's Friendly Service, Toby's Tavern, and TAGS General Construction and Painting. In Florida Phil enjoyed working part-time as a security guard at Buccaneer football games and at several concerts in the Tampa area.

Phil had many interests and particularly enjoyed hunting, race cars and generally tinkering with cars. He loved to watch old Westerns and hunting shows on TV. He was also an avid reader of James Patterson novels and of westerns. Phil also loved and missed his canine companions JD, JR, Tucker, Abbie, and Leena who were all waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge.

Phil was cremated under the direction of the Hodges Family Funeral Home in Zephyrhills,Florida. A memorial and celebration of Phil's life will be held on January 6, 2018 from 2 – 4 p.m. at William G. Miller Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Phil's memory to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice.
