Obituary for John Nau

John was welcomed into the world on November 17, 1946 by John M. and Margaret (Oetzel) Nau in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was raised in Maple Shade, New Jersey, and graduated from the College of Philadelphia with a BS in Chemistry, spending his career as a Programmer. John was a former volunteer First Lieutenant EMT for the Beekman Rescue Squad who also taught NYS EMT’s for 17 years. From 1969 to 1971, during the Vietnam War, John was stationed in Korea along the DMZ. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart and attained the rank of Sargent while serving with the MP. Serving his Country was one of the greatest honors of John’s life.
John left this world on April 29, 2018. He is survived by a large family that will miss him dearly including his wife Kim (LaBianco), son Jack (Cheryl) Witzig and step-children Craig (Danielle) LaBianco, Jill (Stephen) O’Flaherty along with grandchildren Liam, Harper, Aubrie and Avery whom he adored. His extended family includes his brother and sister-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts. John is also survived by Hailee, with whom he shared a close bond, and a very special trio of boys (Hudson, Adam and Parker) that let their Uncle John join their “Club” and called him the “Johnster.” John was predeceased by his parents.
John loved the Outer Banks, his porch; a good bourbon and cocktail hour in general, long walks, his perfectly manicured lawn, football, the scents of spring and the colors of autumn and not necessarily in that order. But most of all he loved his family and friends.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at his home from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Per John’s request, please come dressed casually. Donations in John’s honor can be made to the Local Chapter of the DAV (11 High Acres Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603) or to Caitlyn’s F.I.G.H.T. (13 Sylvan Drive, Lake Peekskill NY 10537).
He was a gentleman in every way possible. Godspeed John.
