Flynn, Shirley J.
age 78, died Sunday, May 24, 2015 at home in Cudahy surrounded by her family. Shirley Jeannette Hansen was born February 25, 1937 near Coleridge Nebraska to Arnold Detluf and Kathryn Jeanette (Feese) Hansen. She graduated from Coleridge High School in 1954. She married Joseph Flynn in Coleridge on June 14, 1958. They moved to Cudahy, Wisconsin in 1959 where she spent the rest of her life.
Shirley taught rural schools in Cedar County, Nebraska for 5 years. She continued as a substitute teacher and a paraprofessional in Cudahy. After many years in the education field she served as secretary at St. John Lutheran Church for 20 years. She was an active member of St. John for 54 years.
Shirley enjoyed traveling with her husband. She loved being with her family and friends. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, reading, and gardening.
Shirley is survived by her 2 children; Joni (Charles) Vella and Scott Flynn (Laura Nygaard), both of Cudahy. 3 grandchildren; Liza (Isaac) Bolton, Katy Vella and Maggie Vella, and 3 great-grandchildren; Ezra, Eli, and Evangeline Bolton. She is further survived by a brother Michael (Donna) Hansen, brother-in-law John Mitchell, and many nieces and nephews. Also her special friends, Jean and Keith Case. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Sue Mitchell and Sally Johnson, and a brother Roger Hansen.
Memorial gathering will be held Thursday, May 28, at St. John Lutheran Church, Cudahy, from 10:00AM - 11:00AM with a service at 11:00AM. Burial will be in Lawn Ridge Cemetery, Coleridge, Nebraska, at a later date. Memorials to St. John Lutheran Church appreciated.
