Obituary for William R. Boyd

William R.  Boyd
We the family and friends have assembled here today to pay our respects to our beloved William R. Boyd.
William R. Boyd, affectionately known to family and friends as “Sonny” was born October 9, 1935, to the late Irene E. Boyd and J.T. Elams. He was raised by his grandparents, Jane and Tom Boyd. He was educated in the Clarkhill, South Carolina school system. At the age of sixteen, he and his aunt Estelle Boyd-Miller, relocated to New York City.

On March 21, 1959, he married the love of his life Mary Agnes Walker; to this union three children were born-Irene, Nancy and William, Jr.

He was employed as a Porter, in the Lowes Cinema Company for twenty-five years.
William, was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who loved and was respected by his family and friends. His three grandsons, Jason, Lavelle, and Dyshaun, who affectionately called him “Papa” were his pride and joy. He will truly be missed.

William departed this life on Monday, April 13, 2015, at 4:00 am at Flushing General Hospital, Queens, NY. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Irene E. Moses (Bishop Alvin Moses Sr.) of Queens, NY and Nancy J. Davis (Lavelle Davis Sr.) of Dover, DE; two sons, William Davis of Appomattox, VA and William R. Boyd Jr. of Queens, NY; six grandsons; Jason E. Drain of Queens, NY, Lavelle M. Davis II, Dyshaun W. Davis both of Dover, DE, Maurice Moses, James Moses, and A.J. Moses all of San Antonio TX; one uncle, Henry Boyd of Clarkhill, SC; one brother-in-law John Gaines; Walter James his personal care assistant for a brief time who became his friend and his “bestest friend” Margaret Valentine; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
