"Pop" Hataway will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Dry Prong with Reverend Lloyd Whitman and Reverend Drew Gardner officiating. Visitation for "Pop" Hataway will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday, June 25, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Dry Prong.

L. R. “Pop” Hataway passed at his home Tuesday morning surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Dry Prong, Louisiana. In his youth, he was given the nickname “Popsicle” by the patrons of Peg Dee’s store due to his constant requests for a nickel to buy a popsicle. Over the years the nickname shortened to “Pop”, a name which became well known throughout the state. Sheriff Hataway was the longest serving Sheriff in the history of Grant Parish, having served eight terms. Additionally, he was a Deputy Sheriff for nine years and an investigator for the Winn Parish District Attorney for four years, before being elected.

Pop Hataway, a member of First Baptist Church of Dry Prong, was chosen to be in the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame after his retirement. In 2008, he was appointed vice-chairman of the Louisiana Board of Pardons by Governor Bobby Jindal and was a past president of the Louisiana Sheriff's Association. His hobbies were few for his happiest pursuits were serving the people of Grant Parish. He truly enjoyed visiting, sharing a laugh, and getting to know people. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and at all times wanted what was best for the parish he called home.

"Pop" Hataway was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Edith Hataway; four sisters, Jewel Floyd, Laura Gardner, Iva Jean DeFresco and Lorraine Hataway; four brothers, Alton Hataway, Melvin Hataway, Russell Hataway and L C Hattaway.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Sharon Hataway, his daughter Shana Delrie and her husband, Chad, and his son Wes Hataway and wife, Jennifer; a sister, Pauline Futrell and four grandchildren, Lindy Hataway, Maggie Hataway, Ragan Delrie Noakes and Lance Delrie...and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Sheriff Steven McCain, Brad Suddeth, Stacey Roberts, Chad Delrie, Lance Delrie, and Craig McCain. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Paul, Donnie Paul, Sheriff William Earl Hilton, Eddie Baxley, Sheriff Hal Turner, Basil Whitaker, and Sammy Bonnette.
