Obituary for Matthew "Matt" Alexander Vlademar, Jr.

Matthew “Matt” Alexander Vlademar, Jr., 96, of Fort Smith, AR passed away on Thursday February 11, 2021 in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born on August 22, 1924 in Leavenworth, Kansas to Matthew Alexander Vlademar, Sr. and Ruth A. (Collins) Vlademar Zobel. Matt was a retired agent for State Farm Insurance Company, a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Leavenworth, a past member of the Vestry, Junior Warden and a past staff member of the Youth Club. For many years he was the funeral Crucifer and Eucharistic Visitor.
Matt was a member and past Master of the Hancock #311 Masonic Lodge, a past 32nd Degree Knight Commander Court of Honor, a past Venerable Master Lodge of Perfection, past Venerable Master of Kadosh Bodies. From the Armed Forces Scottish Rite in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Matt was designated an outstanding Mason by the Grand Lodge of Kansas in 1986. He was a member and past president of the National Sojourner Chapter 154, a past National Committeeman for the Americanism Committee and a member and past Commander of Old Frontier Camp Heroes of 76. Matt was given president citations from National Sojourners for 1986 and 1993. He was a member of the Royal Order of Scotland and has had the honor of sitting in a British Masonic Lodge. He was a past board member of the Red Cross, Leavenworth County Civil Service Commission and Leavenworth Patrons of the Library. He was 1967 county chairman of the United Way Fund Drive and a past chairman and member of the United Way Board. He was a U.S. Army veteran seeing service during World War II and Korea and was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart during World War II. He was a member of Byron H. Mehl American Legion Post 23 and the D.A.V. Matt was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Fort Smith.
On August 6, 1956 he was married to Margaret O’Neil Ledbetter of Leavenworth, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter, Ann.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan E. Bates and her husband Ron of Hackett and Cathy L. Larson of Las Vegas, NV; one son, Stan E. Vlademar and his Lee of Fort Smith; one sister, Ruth Hodge of Leavenworth; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Saturday February 20, 2021 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home Chapelin Fort Smith with Masonic Rites. Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday February 22, 2021 in U.S. National Cemetery with Military Honors. The Family will visit with friends following the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
