Obituary for Douglas Morriss

Douglas A. Morris, 72 of Mountainburg passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020 in a local hospital. SFC Douglas A. Morriss (U.S. Army Retired) served as Field Artillery Cannoneer from 8-67 to 7-92. His Service included Vietnam; Fort Sill; Schofield Barracks; U.S. Army Recruiter; Fort Carson; and Ledward Barracks, Germany. He lived his life with honor and valor, fighting to the end, when God handed him his final PCS (Permanent Change of Station) orders to report on December 17, 2020. He is now standing duty on Heavens shores waiting on his Loved ones as their day arrives. He was born again in 1979, and a current member of Beyond Church in Alma. Doug’s spent the last 49 years loving and caring for Brenda; his Boys; Grands and Greats and will forever be Loved; Respected and Honored by each of them. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Vauda and Vivian Morriss of Lanagan, MO; brother’s in law Bobby White; James White; Lee Williams; Jack Simmons; C.E. Simmons

He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years Brenda Morriss; his two Sons; Dustin of Mountainburg; Dominic and Daughter in Law Angela of OKC; Granddaughter Mikalah; Grandson Damek; Great Grandchildren Macie; Caedyn and Chloe (with Damek’s child on the way in 2021); Sister Rebecca Simmons; Sister’s in law Jeannie Goodwin (Glenn); Shirley Shook (Donnie); Kenney Setser; Mary Ross, Sara Williams and a ‘Battalion’ of Nieces and Nephews, who all loved him dearly.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren. The family will hold a private family memorial at the Fort Smith National Cemetery at a later date.
