Obituary for Greg Walters

Greg Walters was born March 23, 1969 in Sublette Kansas to Wayne & Maxine Walters. Greg passed on December 19, 2020 in Sallisaw. Greg was active in the community of Nicut and later in Sallisaw Oklahoma. He was a member of both the Short Baptist church, and First Baptist church in Sallisaw. Greg was the last charter member to serve on the Nicut rural fire department where he retired in May of 2013. Greg proudly served the citizens of Sequoyah County as a deputy sheriff for twenty three years, and also as a dispatcher for the Muldrow and Roland police departments. Greg was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation and loved being around the Cherokee people. Greg served on many boards including the Seabolt cemetery board, the Quarterback club, the Sequoyah County Firefighters Association. Greg was also a member of the Sequoyah County Democrat Party from 1986-2020 where he served on many campaigns.

Greg is proceeded in death by his parents Wayne and Maxine “Birney” Walters, his grandparents Ted and Irma Walters and Orville and Nina Birney, numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He is survived by his best friend Joe Brunk of Pocola, his Uncle Larry and Aunt Marilyn Winter of Sublette Kansas, Aunt Julie Walters of Nicut Oklahoma, great Aunt Florene Hagan of Broken Arrow Oklahoma, and numerous cousins.

Funeral service will be 10AM Wednesday, December 23, at the Apostolic Faith Church in Sallisaw with burial at Seabolt cemetery. Viewing will be Tuesday December 22, from 8-5pm at Ocker funeral home 700 Jefferson St. Van Buren Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Seabolt Cemetery Association in Nicut or the Apostolic Faith church building fund in Sallisaw Oklahoma.
