Omar went to be with the Lord on June 17, 2020 at the age of 78. Omar was born August 23, 1941 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Omar Sr and Laverne Dennis. He was raised in Oklahoma City and attended U.S. Grant where he met the love of his life, Mary Gideon. They were married in 1961 and shortly after began their family. They eventually moved to Newcastle where they raised Pat, Cathy, and Scott and stayed until 1990. Omar began a career in the home mortgage business that would last over 40 years. He enjoyed the opportunity to help people buy homes. It was rewarding to him to not only help those early on in his career, but then to have the opportunity to help their children purchase their homes. When not working, he was thoroughly involved with his family who he loved immensely. He passed along his love of the outdoors to his wife, children, and grandchildren. In addition, he was very active in coaching youth sports. There are too many stories to tell about his exploits over the years as a coach, but there are over a hundred men that can attest to “Grandma Frickert” being the greatest athlete ever. During his practices, no matter what effort was given, the typical feedback was “Grandma Frickert” could do it better… The outdoors was where he felt the most at ease. He fished for almost every type of fish from Canada to the Gulf Keys. He and Mary eventually made a home on Lake Texoma that was a perfect spot for family gatherings, fantastic fishing trips, and a place to relax. He always looked forward to supplying the bounty for the annual Dennis Family Fish Fry to celebrate his mother’s birthday at the end of each summer. He loved to hunt as well. He would spend many a fall and winter weekends in the fields with his prized bird dogs while sometimes “mis-remembering” who took down what bird and who had the most at the end of the day. If he thought he loved the outdoors, it did not hold a candle to the love he had for his granddaughters and great-granddaughters. The introduction of his granddaughters and great-granddaughters profoundly changed his life for the better. In his later years, they were the light of his life.
Omar will be remembered as someone who was not perfect, but who succeeded in making a lasting impact on those who knew him and loved him. He will be dearly missed.
