Obituary for Clarence Edwin "Jonesie" Jones

Clarence Edwin Jones went to be with the Lord on March 4th, 2020 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 89. The son of Edwin H. and Gertrude C. (Wesson) Jones, Clarence was born on June 20, 1930 in Oklahoma City. After graduating from Capitol Hill High School in 1948, he married his childhood sweetheart Rosella Marie Penry on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, 1949 and were married 57 years until her death in 2006. He was a member of the Church of the Firstborn, baptized by his father Ed Jones in 1949, ordained as a Deacon at Purdue Church in 1977 where he and Rosella attended and served for many years. Clarence loved the Lord and enjoyed traveling and singing with his family across the United States at many church assemblies and venues. Early in his career, he joined the OKC Fire Department in 1955 as a Driver and rose through the ranks of Captain until retirement from Fire Station 17’s with 20 years of service in 1975. After retirement from the Fire Department, Clarence transitioned to his second career as an appliance and heat & air repairman installing new appliances and making service calls across the OKC area for numerous residents and brethren always giving and helping all he could with his time and talents. Clarence (Jonesie to many of his friends) was that rare person that left a lasting impression on all that he met. As a life-long friend recently said, “he not only touched my life, but he changed my children’s lives with his example of how to truly live your faith”. Mother Theresa summed Jonesie up well when she said “It’s not about how much you do, but how much love you put into what you do that counts.” He would want all of us to be challenged to carry the love of Christ to those that we meet daily in his memory. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the wonderful staffs of Heritage Assisted Living and Crossroads hospice for providing him so much love and comfort in his later years.
