Obituary for Charlotte Irene Jones (Webb)

**PLEASE NOTE UPDATED SERVICE DATE**
Service day was moved to Thursday, from Wednesday, for weather related issues.

Charlotte Irene Webb Jones was born on July 21, 1933, in Tekamah, Nebraska, and passed away on January 28, 2020, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born the second of eight children to William Christopher Webb and Myrtle Irene Gwyn, she was preceded in death by her parents; by brothers Wallace, Jack, Dallas, and Connard; and by the love of her life, adoring husband Freddy (Fred) Gene Jones.

She is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Jean and Sharon Kay; two granddaughters, Erin Lindsay and Kelly Louise, and one great-granddaughter, Zion Charlotte. She is also survived by her sister Chrissie of Colorado, brother Joe of Missouri, brother Carroll of North Carolina, and a host of treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins.

While living with her family in Missouri, Charlotte met Fred, who was stationed at nearby Fort Leonard Wood. Fred was playing in the band at a local Saturday night dance attended by Charlotte, who announced to her friend on the spot that she had met the man she would marry. Rarely dissuaded, she was married to Fred in 1952, and their life journey began with a United States Army assignment to Mineral Wells, Texas, where their first daughter, Sheryl, was born. Soon after, Fred was deployed to Korea, and Charlotte returned with their newborn daughter to live with Fred’s mother, Pearl, in Oklahoma City. Daughter Sharon was born in 1957. Charlotte would remain in Oklahoma City for the rest of her life, except for the times she accompanied her husband during two military deployments to Japan and Okinawa.

Charlotte was a woman of many talents and many interests. She was an expert seamstress, learning from her mother-in-law, Pearl. She fashioned dresses for church, clothes for the children, more than one wedding dress, and enumerable Halloween costumes. She traveled all over the United States with her husband by car, motorcycle, and travel trailer. She particularly loved the American West and would fondly recount stories of visits to Zion National Park, Pike’s Peak, and other landmarks.

After Fred’s death in 2015, life became difficult for Charlotte and chronic illnesses began to take their toll. Charlotte wanted to thank so many for their help during this time, but especially Gay Griffin of Mayfair Church of Christ for her friendship and devotion during this time, and neighbors Kathy and Doug.

More than anything else, Charlotte was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love knew no bounds, and there was nothing she would not do for her family. There are so many examples of her love and sacrifice that attempting to name them would be futile, but she was a matriarch in every sense of the word. She taught us to love—and to carry on even when life is difficult. She will be missed but never forgotten.

Services will be held Thursday, February 6, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Mayfair Church of Christ, 2340 NW 50th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73112. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
