Obituary for Melba Jean Tomlin (Young)

Funeral services celebrating the life of Melba Jean Young Tomlin, age 84, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at New Prospect Baptist Church in Dry Prong, Louisiana with Reverends Trey Lewis and Leonard Free officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Frazier Cemetery.

Melba was a loving Wife, Mother, MeMaw, Daughter, Sister and Friend. She was an active member of New Prospect Baptist Church for 53 years. She was devoted to her family and her church. Melba graduated from Dry Prong High School In 1952. She began a career in medical records in 1960 at Schumpert Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. She retired from Rapides Regional Medical Center in 1997 after more than 30 years of service as Assistant Director of Medical Records.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Tomlin, Sr.; her daughter, Deborah Tomlin Zingg; and her parents, W.W. “Bill” Young and Sallye Delaney Young.

She is survived by her children, Diane Tomlin Chenevert (Doug), Donald Tomlin (Terri), Steve Tomlin (Leasa) and John Zingg; her grandchildren, Chris Chenevert, Mathew Tomlin, Sarah Tomlin Mitchell, Amanda Doughty Griffin, Christopher Doughty, Colton Tomlin and Jason Zingg; her great-grandchildren, Breana Chenevert, Ella Chenevert and Jackson Tomlin; her siblings, Wendell Young (Pat), Martha Young Wilson, Bobby Ellington, Sr., Bill Ellington (Brenda), Auline Ellington Derbonne (Jerry) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons, Chris Chenevert, Mathew Tomlin, Sam Mitchell, Christopher Doughty, Colton Tomlin and Jason Zingg.
