Obituary for Bernard Donnelly

Donnelly, Bernard
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernard Donnelly, at 90 years of age, on Saturday October 26th, 2019. In his last moments, Bernie was at peace knowing that he was surrounded by his loving family. Bernie was the loving and devoted husband of the late Helen Donnelly (nee. Daly) and the proud father of: Margaret (Brian), Brenda, Brian (Sue), Elaine (Neil), Sharon (the late Douglas Young), Patrick, James (Robyn) and Annmarie. Bernie was so loved and cherished by his many grandchildren as well as his two beautiful great-grandchildren. Bernie was also loved and adored by his family and friends in Scotland and England. Bernie was predeceased by his parents and siblings in Scotland. It is hard to put into words the impact that Bernie had on everyone who had the honour to know him. Bernie had so many ways that he liked to show his love and care, from always having a pot of stew ready on the stove for whoever stopped by, to the candy and packs of gum that he shared with a smile. Bernie believed that the love of his family and friends made him the richest man in the world. Known as the “man of steel” not just because he was an ironworker his entire life, but also because Bernie showed unwavering strength and resilience even during the most difficult times. Bernie was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #163, a devoted member of St. Margaret Mary Parish and always made time to spend on the golf course. The Donnelly family would like to thank the staff at Juravinski Hospital for their kindness and compassion during the hard days and nights. Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave., on Friday November 1, 2019 from 6-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 20 Idlewood Ave. on Saturday November 2, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Burial to take place at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Make-A-Wish Canada would be appreciated by the family.
