Obituary for James Herbert Sutton
James "Jimmy" Herbert Sutton, Sr. was born on, February 10, 1943, in Toledo, OH, to the union of Rudolph and Massie Sutton. He departed this life to be with the Lord on June 25, 2019, uniting with his wife, father, mother, three sisters, and one brother.
Jimmy accepted Christ at an early age, joining the Antioch Baptist Church in Swanton, OH. He attended Swanton High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and proudly served our country in Germany. He was inducted on April 5, 1967, earning the National Defense Service Medal Expert Rifleman.
In May 1970, he united in marriage to the late Mary (Lytle) Sutton. To that union, one child, James Herbert Sutton, Jr., was born.
Jimmy loved sports and spending time in the basement with his brothers and nephews, watching and debating games.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sutton; parents, his brother, Rudolph Sutton, Jr.; and sisters, Elizabeth Thames, Barbara Stubbs and Georgetta (Rose) Sutton.
He is survived by his son, James Herbert Sutton, Jr.; three grandchildren, James N. Sutton, Alaya Fields and Alayka Fields; seven brothers, Yusef (Joseph) (Melinda) Sutton, Eugene Sutton, John (Mamie) Sutton, Leroy Sutton, David Sutton, and Claude Sutton; five sisters, Willa Mae Ligon, Betty Hunt, Ruth Sutton, Lillian Sutton, and Beatrice Sutton, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
