Obituary for Sylvia Jean Temple

Sylvia "Cookie" Jean (Rogers) Temple passed away on Sunday morning, June 16, 2019, at her home in Toledo, at the age of 61. A long time resident of Toledo, she was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Mamie and Eugene Rogers, Sr. A graduate of East Technical High School, Sylvia often volunteered for the Salvation Army before attending the University of Toledo, where she majored in Social Work. After college, she married Orville Temple, Sr. in 1981, and had two sons, Orville and Maurice. Sylvia's compassion led her to a career in the public sector, working for the Zepf Center, Toledo Public Schools, and Mercy Hospital. She regularly attended Indiana Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, where she served God and her community, as an usher and driver. Her generosity was silent but spoke volumes of her character.

Sylvia was preceded in dearth by her husband, Orville, Sr.; parents, Mamie and Eugene, Sr.; and brother, Jonathia Rogers. She is survived by her sons, Orville (Oana) and Maurice; step-daughter, Laura; sisters, Debra Stallworth (Eddie), Annette Rogers-Gayle, Jeanette Rogers, Carolyn Hopper, Jacqueline Rogers-Overbey; brothers, Ernest Blackman, Benjamin Rogers, Donald Rogers, Sr. (Louisa), Eugene Rogers, Jr., Tyrone Rogers, Jerome Rogers, and Kenneth Rogers (Lashawn); and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews.

We will miss her beautiful spirit, loving heart, kindness, strength, and devotion to God.
