Obituary for Catherine Collier

Ms. Catherine Collier (Strong), was born to the union of Samuel and Blossie M. Strong, in Marion, Alabama, on September 26, 1921. She transitioned peacefully home to God on, March 9, 2019, of nature’s aging, at the age of 97, in the Sunset House Retirement Home in
Ottawa Hills, Ohio .

Catherine confessed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age. She was baptized at The Mount Olive Baptist Church, in Marion, Alabama.

She Married Mr. Sydney Murray in Birmingham, Alabama, and to this union, one daughter was born. She later married Basil Collier, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Catherine attended the highly renowned Lincoln Normal School, for her middle grades and a portion of her high school education, where one of her classmates was the late Mrs. Martin
Luther King Jr. Science and English were her best subjects in High school, and later attended Booker T. Washington Business College. Her artistic ability was revealed in Cosmetology and she graduated from Madam C.J. Walker School of Cosmetology.

Catherine was a singer in the “Baby Strong Quartet”, with her 3 sisters in Birmingham Alabama . She relocated to Cincinnati Ohio, from Birmingham Alabama after caring for her mother for many years.

She was a faithful member of the following churches; St Joseph Baptist Church in Birmingham, Zion Baptist in Cincinnati Ohio, Singing in the Inspirational choir and joined Friendship Baptist Church upon her arrival in Toledo, Ohio.

In February of 1999, she was recognized by the Y.M.C.A. Center for Young Families, for her service in the Foster Grandparent program in Cincinnati Ohio.

She is Preceded in death by both parents and 3 sisters Susie Hudson, Ruth Judge and Gurther Young.

Catherine leaves to cherish her memories a living niece, Vera M. Rice, who was her Caregiver, during the last eight years; a devoted son-in-law ,Charles Rice III; brother, Sam (Faith) Strong, of Detroit Michigan; grandson, C. Edward Rice of Columbus Ohio; granddaughter, Kathryn (William) Rice Morris, of Irvine California; great granddaughter, Madisyn Morris; nephews, Walter Williams and Corey Tuck, of Cincinnati , Ohio, Frank and Beulah Kynard of Toledo Ohio, and a host of other friends in the Strong/Kynard family.
