Obituary for Nancy Yvonne Poteet (Hawkins)

Nancy Yvonne Phillips Poteet went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the age of 88. Nancy was born on April 18, 1930 in Muskogee Oklahoma to Charles and Gladys (Thompson) Hawkins. Nancy was one of six children. Nancy graduated from Muskogee High School in 1947 and went on to work at the local jewelry store. Sometime after graduating, Nancy met Walter Phillips. They were married in 1950 and soon after started a family. Around 1960, Walter and Nancy moved to the south OKC/Moore area where they raised seven children. Nancy loved her family dearly and took very good care of them. Around 1970, Nancy started working as a secretary at the Mental Health Center in Norman, Oklahoma. She worked there for 20+ years until her retirement in the early 1990s. Sometime soon after retiring, she was introduced to Adren Poteet by her brother and sister-in-law all from Healdton, Oklahoma. Soon after meeting, they wed and Nancy moved to Healdton. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore and Healdton Hospital and served Meals-On-Wheels for the Senior Center in Healdton. Nancy was a kind, giving woman and had a servant’s heart. Nancy was very gifted musically and loved to play the piano. She was a member of the music club in Healdton and made very fond memories with her friends in the club as well as some great times playing in her Bunko group. One of her favorite destinations was Branson, but her most memorable trip was a cruise she took to the Caribbean. Above all, she loved spending time with her children and that was one thing she could do whether she was having a good day or a bad day. Her children were of the utmost importance to her and they will miss her deeply. Although Nancy is no longer on the earth her loving ways and joy will always be remembered.
