Obituary for Ezra Landon Collins

E. Landon (Don) Collins, aged 79, passed away surrounded by his family’s love on Sunday, February 10, 2019, in Winchester, Virginia.
Landon was born on October 30, 1939 in Rockridge, West Virginia, the son of Louis Hassel and Cleo Kennedy Collins. He graduated from Big Creek High School in War, West Virginia in 1958. Landon was the beloved husband of Waima Coleman for 59 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: Robert Landon Collins with wife Sue, Richard Louis Collins with wife Linda, and Kelly Collins Ashby with husband Chuck, all of Winchester, Virginia; sister Norma Jean Harrison of Sterling, Virginia; and seven beautiful grandchildren (Victoria, Matt, Samantha, Amy, Jennifer, Isabelle, and Ethan). He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joetta Hooker.
He earned his Associates degree at Concord University and his Master’s Degree from American Institute of Banking. He started his banking career in June 1960 as a teller at Arlington Trust Co. in Arlington, Virginia. He was the coach of the company’s men softball team and won numerous championships. In the early 70s, he also coached a little league baseball team in Sterling. He was a member of the Arlington Host Lions Club and the Loudon County Sanitation Authority. He was transferred to Winchester in 1985 to become the Regional President of First American Bank. He retired from First American Bank in 1992 and became a finance teacher and a baseball and basketball coach at Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy. He later returned to banking, joining First Bank of Strasburg until his retirement. He was a member of Shenandoah Valley Baptist Church and had served on the Finance Committee and Choir.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 15, 2019 at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester from 6:00-8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 16, 2019 at Jones Funeral Home with Pastor David Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hebron Cemetery. Reception for family and friends will follow the graveside service (weather permitting) at the Hilton Garden Inn in Winchester. Pallbearers will be Rick Collins, Don Collins, Matt Collins, Chuck Ashby, Chuck Hooker, and Ivan Hooker. Honorary pallbearers will be Rich Reedy, Ed Hooker, Charles Hooker, Andy Christian, Ron Copley, and Kenny Fields.
