Ernest “Ernie” J. Philpott, age 84, of OKC died Sunday, December 16 surrounded by his family after complications from Parkinson’s. Ernie was born October 11, 1934 in Konawa, OK to Arthur Philpott & Opal (Philpott) Baker. After graduating from Konawa High School, he went to Bethany Nazarene College for a year and a half, then to East Central State College in Ada with a total of 60+ college hours. He married Pam (Skacel) Lovin August 6, 1987 in Ft. Smith, AR. To support his family, Ernie worked as a manager over several Humpty-Dumpty stores throughout Oklahoma and as a home builder for Purdue Housing. He also served his country as a Chaplain Assistant in the Air National Guard. In 1973, he started his own business, Philpott Real Estate, which had branches in Chickasha, Anadarko, and Lindsay. He was also an appraiser for 30 years. In 1995, he sold his business & in 2000, moved to Lake Eufala to fulfill his dream of living on the lake. Due to his parents’ health, he & Pam moved to OKC in 2001 to help his family & work for Churchill-Brown. Ernie was very active in his community and for over 20 years served the Chickasha Camp and Moore Camp Gideons by holding a variety of offices which gave him the opportunity to share God’s word in a unique way. Ernie was also a member of the Oklahoma Masons and the India Shrine Temple as Provast Guard where he worked in parades, the Shrine Circus, and taking crippled children to India Shrine Hospitals. Ernie walked with the Lord daily and was a devout member of New Life Christian Church in Chickasha for 15 years. He served the church by mentoring many children’s, youth, & young married couples groups as well as a driving the church vans when needed and participating in mission work. After moving to Oklahoma City, he found a new church home at First Baptist Church of Newcastle where he was an active member for 15 years. He touched many lives & no matter where he travelled, someone knew him. When he wasn’t working or serving his community, Ernie could be found travelling, hunting, fishing, camping, flying his airplanes, skiing (both snow & water), watching sports, reading, laughing & telling jokes, & making a good deal. However, nothing was more precious to him than family. He thoroughly enjoyed the family reunions with the entire family at Lake Tenkiller. He instilled the lesson in his kids and grandkids that if you can’t pay, you don’t play. His favorite song to his wife, Pam, was “I’ll Never Stop Loving You” by Doris Day. He would always hold her hand in church, knowing that the love they had would weather any storm because Christ lived in their hearts & all things were possible with the Lord if you believed. He had a tremendous impact on all who knew him due to his generous heart and will be greatly missed. There will be an emptiness in the hearts of his family & friends, but knowing that he is in his heavenly home, no longer in pain and in the arms of Jesus brings comfort, peace, and hopes to those he leaves behind. The family of Ernie asks that we pray that we’ll be ready to go Home to the arms of Jesus when He calls. “… to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2nd Corinthians 5:1-10).
