Obituary for Emily Wright Pomerleau

A native of Bell Buckle, Tennessee, Emily Wright Pomerleau grew up on the family farm. She was one of the first in her town to attend university. She earned a Bachelor's degree in business at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she met her first husband, with whom she had two children. In 1967 she married Donald D. Pomerleau, Police Commissioner of Baltimore, Maryland, where she lived for many years. Together they traveled the world. They also bought land on Hull Creek in Virginia, ultimately planting and tending 500 fruit trees and building a house. After her husband’s retirement, the couple made the Northern Neck their full-time home. Following his death in 1992, Emily stayed in the Virginia countryside and Hull Creek community that she so loved.

Emily was an active member of the Wicomico Church Episcopal Church, where she served as an officer and a volunteer. For many years, she was an avid golfer at Indian Creek Country Club. She loved cooking, gardening, and reading. She enjoyed an active and rewarding social life with her neighbors and friends.

Emily is survived by a son, Gregory Barrett, a daughter, Elizabeth Barrett, and three grandchildren, Alice Barrett de Sep, Moira Barrett, and Daniel Rombro.

A memorial service will be held at Wicomico Episcopal Church 10:00 a. m. Saturday, October 20, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic in Kilmarnock, which she was very proud to have helped found in cooperation with other members of this church.
