Obituary for Mabel Smith

Mabel Smith was born on November 15, 1935 in York, Alabama, to Dave and Jenola Thomas. Mabel had one older sibling, the late Evangelist Mary Wilson. Mabel married the love of her life, Robert Smith, to this union, three children were born. Mabel departed this life on Thursday, June 22, 2017.

Mabel attended Sherman Elementary, Scott High School, and The University of Toledo where she received a B.A. in Elementary Education and a Master of Education Degree, specializing in Special Education and Remedial Reading. Mabel taught in the Toledo Public School System for over 35 years. After retiring, she worked at Victory Academy School for 4 ½ years. She also worked in numerous community organizations: Maritime Academy, The Boy Scouts of America, The Red Cross, African American Women’s Cancer Support Group and volunteered for many, many years. She loved her job and she cared for her students by nurturing and teaching them to stay focused and gain knowledge during their educational development.

Mabel accepted Christ at a very young age. She loved her church family, St. James COGIC, where the late Bishop William James, was pastor and Jurisdictional Prelate. She later united with Abundant Life Ministries, Pastor Cordell Jenkins, under Perfecting Fellowship International, Prelate, Bishop Marvin Winans, where she served faithfully until her death.
