Obituary for Sam Gatto

Sam Gatto
Gatto, Sam
November 12, 1945-September 24, 2018

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our darling Sam, a true gentleman. Sam brought laughter and love into Diana's life for almost 50 years. Sam's children were his heart and soul, a loving and doting dad and "Pops" to Craig and Kirsti Gatto, and Dana and Rob Spina. Sam was the best nonno ever to his "guys", Sam, John and Michael Gatto. They will forever remember his endless stories, playful teasing and trips to the corner store; never too tired or sick to engage with each one of them. Sam will be reunited with his loving parents, Florence and John Gatto. He shared a special bond with each of his siblings: Ann and the late Mario Fantuz, Mary and Frank Manzin, Stella and Paul Lewis, and Albert and the late Albina Gatto. Special thanks to Zio Albert and Zia Ann for being there for all of Dad's treatments. Sam was a caring and respectful son-in-law to Talico and Irma Padovani, brother-in-law to Charlie and Norma Padovani, the late Danny Padovani and Angela, Mary and Livio Lanza and the late Jenny Padovani. Sam took great pride and pleasure in being the owner of Greenhill Landscaping. Thank you to Dr. Kazemi, Dr. Shad and the staff at St. Peter's Hospital for their unbelievable care and compassion. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Thursday, September 27, 2018, from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 135 Livingston Avenue, Grimsby, on Friday, September 28, 2018, at 11a.m. To honour Sam's wishes, cremation will follow. If desired, memorial contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Cancer Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

"If I could turn back the clock,
I'd find you sooner
And love you longer".
Scarlett
